Buderim 9 Challenge 2016 – thanks for making it the best yet!
Tue Jan 10, 2017
A record 250 riders registered for the personal challenge to get over the Buderim 9 yesterday - cycling up (and down) nine of Buderim’s toughest hills to raise awareness and funds for Sunshine Coast disability service, the Cerebral Palsy League (CPL).
Approximately 55% of participants completed the 9-hill course, with the event on track to reach its $20,000 target raising funds in support of local children and their families living with cerebral palsy.
For the third year in a row, the recipient of the prestigious Argon Law perpetual trophy was Josh Paix (18) of Burnside - the Highest Fundraiser of the 2016 Buderim 9 Challenge raising $3,042.
And another repeat for Best Effort went to Steve Roscarel of Kunda Park who rode a BMX and completed 5 hills in 2 hours and 51 minutes – an astounding achievement.
Event organiser, Greg Paix said it was a fantastic event this year for many reasons.
“The Argon Law Buderim 9 Challenge just keeps getting bigger and better each year,” said Mr Paix.
“The enthusiasm of all riders and their efforts in fundraising, the valued contributions of sponsors and supporters, a passionate organising committee and more than 50 hardworking volunteers – all contribute to the success of the event!
“We also attracted Sunshine-Coast based former champion cyclist, Henk Vogels as official Buderim 9 Challenge Ambassador this year – he was so supportive of the event and the cause behind it.”
Manager of CPL’s Sunshine Coast service, Carmel Smith, said this year’s event has been by far the most successful with 250 riders, 9 hill sponsors, 12 in-kind supporters and many amazing donations of goods, time, sweat and money!
“We estimate we’ll reach our target of $20,000 this year to support children and families on the Sunshine Coast with cerebral palsy,” Ms Smith said.
“We are so grateful for the efforts and generosity of all those who continue to help make this event such an extraordinary success.”
It’s no wonder businesses are keen to come on board, with the event attracting participants from not only across the Coast and Queensland, interstate riders stretching from Western Australia and Tasmania and even international riders from New Zealand and Singapore joined in the challenge.
John Gallagher, Director of Principal Sponsor, Argon Law, congratulated all involved in this inspirational event.
“Argon Law has been an avid supporter of the event for the past five years and the Buderim 9 Challenge is a fabulous example of individuals within our community and local businesses coming together for a common cause and a bit of fun and personal challenge.” Mr Gallagher said.
