Sunshine Coast National Art Prize 2025 Winner Announced

Argon Law proudly celebrates its seventh year as Major Sponsor of the Sunshine Coast’s leading national art award

Brisbane artist David Wells has been announced as the 2025 Sunshine Coast National Art Prize Major Prize Winner, taking home $25,000 for his captivating painting Dream house with galah.

Chosen from more than 460 entries submitted by artists across Australia, Wells’ thought-provoking work offers a powerful reflection on the housing challenges facing communities nationwide. Through a blend of visual storytelling and social commentary, Dream house with galah explores the idea of home ownership – a dream increasingly out of reach for many Australians.

Wells’ winning piece now joins the Sunshine Coast Art Collection, where it will be enjoyed by locals and visitors for years to come – after it spends its first year hung proudly on the walls of the Argon Law offices for our clients to enjoy.

Now in its 20th year, the Sunshine Coast National Art Prize continues to attract some of Australia’s most talented contemporary artists, showcasing the creativity and cultural vitality that make the Sunshine Coast a thriving arts destination.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli congratulated Wells and all the finalists, noting the exceptional standard of this year’s entries.

“The Sunshine Coast National Art Prize celebrates the very best in contemporary art across Australia,” Mayor Natoli said.

“This extraordinary work was one of 40 finalists selected from more than 460 entries. The standard was incredibly high – something I encourage everyone to see for themselves in the exhibition at Caloundra Regional Gallery.”

The People’s Choice Award was claimed by Seabastion Toast for her vibrant and playful piece, The River House, a clear favourite among visitors for its joyful depiction of Sunshine Coast life.

This year marks two major milestones for the event – the 20th artwork added to the Sunshine Coast Art Collection through the Prize and the 25th anniversary of the Caloundra Regional Gallery.

The 2025 Sunshine Coast National Art Prize Exhibition is open now at the Caloundra Regional Gallery, running until October 12.

The exhibition is a must-see for art lovers, families and visitors looking to experience the best of Sunshine Coast culture.
