Director of Argon Law, John Gallagher, says it has been "a great privilege to serve as company secretary for SunCentral Maroochydore," with the past 12s having seen rapid growth in the Maroochydore city centre.
SunCentral Maroochydore is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sunshine Coast Council which provides advice to the council in respect of the development of the 53-hectare greenfield site in the heart of Maroochydore, previously the home of the Horton Park Golf Course. The full development of the site will require billions of dollars of investment, which will be a major driver of economic activity on the Sunshine Coast for many years to come. John furthermore stated that he was honoured to work with a highly motivated and experienced board, chaired by Morgan Parker, as well as two very capable CEOs, with Amanda Yeates replacing the long serving John Knaggs as CEO in July this year. The SunCentral team continues to work closely with the council and with Walker Corporation, the major developer of the Maroochydore city centre.
The last 12 months has seen the completion of the second building in the city centre, being the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites, and the construction of two other commercial buildings, which are both due to be completed later this year. Those buildings are the new city hall, constructed for the Sunshine Coast Council by McNab to house council employees, and A1 Maroochydore, the 3-level office building developed by Sunshine Coast developer, Evans Long.
The coming months and years will see further new buildings emerge from the northern end of the site, with several major projects likely to commence construction very soon. This will include Walker Corporation’s first commercial office building in Maroochydore at 50 First Avenue and a private hospital to be developed by Barwon Health.
“Working closely with the team at SunCentral, The Sunshine Coast Council and representatives of SunCentral’s development partners, Walker Corporation; achieving an appropriate balance between commercial and non-commercial functions underpinned with far reaching positive economic outcomes that will benefit the general community, represents an exciting and important long-term ambition," John said. “Argon Law’s Maroochydore office looks out from northside of the CBD development. It has been exhilarating for me and my team to watch the 53-hectare greenfield site being transformed into a vibrant Central Business District that offers unparalleled opportunities for our thriving region.”
