We love contributing and paying recognition to our local Law students, the future lawyers of tomorrow, and that’s why Argon Law is a proud sponsor of The University of the Sunshine Coast’s Academic Prizes. Each year, regional and national industry sponsors like Argon Law recognise the best law, business and arts students, with awards totalling almost $50,000.
Argon Law has been supporting USC’s Academic Law Prizes every year since the inaugural Commercial Law Prize in 2017. As we look forward to sponsoring two more students for Contract Law this year, let’s take a look back at the past year’s winners.
In 2017, the first year of Argon Law’s sponsorship of the USC Academic Law Prize, John was proud to present the prize to Blake Crook, who achieved the highest results in Commercial Law for that year.

Argon Law’s Prize for 2018 was awarded to Meg Lucas and John was there to shake her hand in person.

Meg achieved an incredible 94% in her studies and was awarded the Highest Achieving Student in Commercial Law at USC’s Faculty of Arts, Business and Law Annual Awards and Prizes Ceremony.
Meg is now an Associate with Thompson Legal here on the Sunshine Coast.
We were incredibly proud to sponsor the prize for the Commercial Law course at USC in 2019 with our congratulations going out to Grace Cooper for receiving this year’s award!
Grace was also a recipient of the Una Prentice Memorial Award Recipients from the WLAQ in the same year!
Argon Law wished Seamus Burkett a big congratulations in 2021 having seen the highest results in LAW203 Contracts A and LAW204 Contracts B (overall combined academic results).

Seamus Burkett and Argon Law Director John Gallagher caught up over a coffee at the new Argon Law offices in Maroochydore.

“It was great to see Seamus is not only interested in the academic side of law but also enjoys learning and has an appreciation for the client management and business side,” John said.
Seamus, a Sunshine Coast local, attended Sienna College and was already busy working 3-days a week in a Law firm while studying full-time. He is now a Legal Officer at Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
In 2022, Josh McGaughran took home the big prize. Josh was the highest achieving student in LAW203 Contracts A and LAW204 Contracts B (overall combined academic results).

Josh is now a Solicitor with Sajen Legal.
In 2023, Tamara Laurence received the Academic Law Prize, achieving the highest combined grades for Contract Law for that year’s cohort.

We wish Tamara all the best for the remainder of her studies and look forward to welcoming her to the legal profession in the future.
2024’s Highest Achieving Student in Contract Law was Emma Bryan, whose exemplary performance set a new benchmark for future cohorts.

Emma saw the highest results across the University of the Sunshine Coast’s LAW 203 and 204 Contracts A & B courses.
John expressed pride in the firm’s ongoing partnership with University of the Sunshine Coast.
“Education is the cornerstone of a thriving community. By supporting these awards, we aim to encourage students to excel in their academic pursuits and to pursue careers that contribute positively to society,” he said.
“We extend our congratulations to Emma for such a wonderful achievement.”
Emma is now a research assistant with USC.
Argon Law is committed to giving back to the communities it serves. Our sponsorship with the University of the Sunshine Coast is part of a broader initiative to engage with the community and support local programs.
Whether it’s providing volunteer legal advice, supporting the growth of tertiary education, or helping fund vital support to those with illness and physical disabilities, John Gallagher and his team believe the expression “good corporate citizenship” must be tangible, meaningful and collaborative.
Argon Law’s commitment to community and education underscores its dedication not only to legal excellence but also to building a stronger, more educated community.
